L’Indécis est une métaphore de l’influence de champs magnétiques sur des corps mouvants dans l’espace temps. Un pendule aimant oscille, son champ magnétique rencontre d’autres champs magnétiques qui influencent ses mouvements en permanence. Attiré, repoussé, son indécision provoque une danse aléatoire. Chorégraphie parfois calme, parfois enroulée, l’Indécis révèle l’échantillon d’un ballet céleste, rendant perceptible l’invisible.

L'Indécis is a metaphor for the influence of magnetic fields on moving bodies in space and time. A magnetic pendulum oscillates, its magnetic field meets other magnetic fields that are constantly influencing its movements. Attracted, repelled, its indecision creates a random dance. A choreography that is sometimes calm, sometimes tightly coiled. The undecided hints at a celestial ballet, making the imperceptible visible.

Through this installation, Jean-François D’Or makes tangible the electromagnetic force that is at work in the universe. He reveals the sample of a celestial ballet making the imperceptible visible. Confrontation and dialogue between two fundamental laws of physics. Magnetism and gravitation.

Puisque l’univers est en expansion, dans le doute, il ignorait si son choix avait une quelconque importance. Oui, non, avant, après, aujourd’hui, demain ? Dérisoires hésitations face à l’absurdité de cette grande danse céleste. Tourment métaphysique, l’indécis renonce à choisir ou choisit de renoncer.
Dans ce deux fois étoilé, finalement, il prendra peut-être le canard au foin ou le boeuf beurre d’anchois, et ne prendra pas d’entrée, c’est son choix, puisqu’il prendra peut-être un dessert, ou pas.

Les visiteurs prennent l’initiative d’actionner le pendule. Cette interaction les immerge dans l’observation et la contemplation du geste qu’ils ont eux-mêmes provoqué. Un lancement circulaire met le pendule en large orbite avant de rentrer dans l’arène, un lancement linéaire le fait directement se confronter à la ronde d’aimants.

Visitors take the initiative to activate the pendulum. This interaction immerses them in the observation and contemplation of the gesture that they themselves have provoked. A circular launch puts the pendulum in a wide orbit before entering the arena, a linear launch makes it directly confront the circle of magnets.

La force électromagnétique est, avec la force de gravitation, l'interaction faible, et l'interaction forte, l'une des quatre forces fondamentales de la physique. Cette interaction magnétique à longue portée, plus puissante que la gravitation, s’exerce sur les particules portant une charge électrique, de façon répulsive entre charges de même signe, et attractive entre charges de signes opposés.
Notre Terre fonctionne également tel un gigantesque aimant. Autour du noyau solide de notre planète bleue bouillonne du fer à l’état liquide. Ses mouvements provoquent des champs électromagnétiques qui engendrent nos pôles magnétiques nord et sud.

The electromagnetic force is, with the force of gravity, the weak interaction, and the strong interaction, one of the four fundamental forces of physics. This long-range magnetic interaction, more powerful than gravitation, is exerted on particles carrying an electric charge, in a repulsive way between charges of the same sign, and attractive between charges of opposite signs. 

Our Earth also functions like a gigantic magnet. Around the solid core of our blue planet, iron in the liquid state bubbles. Its movements cause electromagnetic fields that generate our north and south magnetic poles.
