"Dans un dialogue avec l'architecture de Victor Horta à BOZAR, plusieurs centaines de spermatozoïdes en verre de Murano se meuvent, batifolent et ondulent en un long flux sinueux à la recherche éperdue d'un potentiel de vie, d'une rencontre féconde."
Cette installation, d'abord présentée à BOZAR Brussels ensuite au Château de La Hulpe, confronte les visiteurs à une autre échelle. À travers ce flux organique déployé, ces centaines de gamètes semblent véritablement en mouvement, rampant sur le sol, envahissant l'espace en quête d'une vie possible. Territoire émotionnel, cette installation peut être perçue comme la recherche éperdue d'une autre humanité, la conviction qu'elle ouvre la voie à des perspectives plus vastes et plus prometteuses. Confluences, migrations, évasions, invasions, célébration de la fragilité et de la vulnérabilité de la vie, et de sa capacité d'adaptation.

In a dialogue with Victor Horta's architecture at BOZAR, several hundred Murano glass spermatozoa move, frolic, and undulate in a long, sinuous flow, desperately searching for the potential for life, for a fruitful encounter. This installation, first presented at BOZAR Brussels and then at the Château de La Hulpe, confronts visitors on a different scale. Through this unfolding organic flow, these hundreds of gametes truly seem to be in motion, crawling across the floor, invading the space in search of possible life. An emotional territory, this installation can be perceived as the desperate search for another humanity, the conviction that it opens the way to broader and more promising perspectives. Confluences, migrations, escapes, invasions, a celebration of the fragility and vulnerability of life, and its capacity for adaptation.

Lustre de Murano revisité, en suspension, ces gamètes semblent plus légers que l'air. A la moindre brise, ils se tortillent, oscillent, tintillant au frêle son d'un délicat carillon. Ils se dirigent inexorablement vers la lumière qui les attire et les révèle.

Murano chandelier revisited, suspended, these gametes seem lighter than air. At the slightest breeze, they twist, oscillate, tinkling to the frail sound of a delicate chime. They move inexorably towards the light that attracts and reveals them.
Un travail photographique macro magnifiant le verre opalin offre une ambiguïté sur leur dimension. En effet, ces gamètes soufflés en verre de Murano ont une longueur de 55 cm, ils sont agrandis 10 000 fois. A cette échelle, leur propriétaire mesurerait 18 km. Les véritables cellules reproductrices que sont les spermatozoïdes mesurent environ 55 micromètres et sont observés en laboratoire à l’aide de microscope électronique.

A macro photographic work magnifying the opaline glass offers an ambiguity on their dimension. Indeed, these gametes blown in Murano glass are 55 cm long, they are enlarged 10,000 times. On this scale, their owner would measure 18 km, his erectile penis, about 1.8 km. The real reproductive cells that are the spermatozoa measure about 55 micrometers and are observed in the laboratory using an electron microscope.
En métaphore à la singularité de la vie, la fragilité et la délicatesse du verre de Murano s’y prêtaient à merveille. Fécondation in vitro.
Chaque pièce a été soufflée dans la grande tradition du verre de Murano. Ces gamètes sont étirés jusqu'à leur extrême fragilité. Chaque pièce est unique. Le défi fut de tenter de rendre cette matière inanimée vivante, organique.

As a metaphor for the singularity of life, the fragility and delicacy of Murano glass lent themselves wonderfully to it. In vitro fertilization. Each piece was blown in the great tradition of Murano glass. These gametes are stretched to their extreme fragility. Each piece is unique. The challenge was to try to make this inanimate matter alive, organic.

Les spermatozoïdes sont entre 200 et 500 millions à être parachutés à une vitesse d’environ 50 km/h. A leur échelle, leur distance à parcourir équivaut au voyage terre-lune, une épopée. Il leur faut quelques 800 coups de flagelle pour avancer de 10 mm. Même si nombre d’entre eux s’égarent, leur flagelle serait doté d'une antenne qui leur permettrait de s'orienter vers l'émetteur ovocyte. Dans le voisinage de l'ovule, ils ne sont plus qu'environ 200 d’entre eux. C’est ce peloton de tête qui fut matérialisé dans ce quantique qu’est cette installation La Rencontre, moment de recherche éperdue qui précède la fécondation.

There are between 200 and 500 million spermatozoa parachuted at a speed of about 50 km/h. On their scale, the distance they have to travel is equivalent to the journey from Earth to the Moon, an epic. They need about 800 flagellum strokes to advance 10 mm. Even if many of them get lost, their flagellum is said to have an antenna that allows them to orient themselves towards the oocyte transmitter. In the vicinity of the ovum, there are only about 200 of them left. It is this leading group that was materialized in this quantum that is this installation La Rencontre, a moment of frantic research that precedes fertilization.
